More Than Music: Music Education for Lifelong Growth

Katie Lo is an experienced harp teacher, offering lessons in both pedal and lever harp. With a background in piano, Katie brings a comprehensive approach to music education. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, creating a welcoming environment for a diverse range of students.

Katie’s educational background includes gaining an entrance scholarship to study a masters degree in harp performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where she worked with Professor Skaila Kanga. She was also awarded a full tuition scholarship under the HK Scholarship of Excellence Scheme to support her studies in London. During her time at the Academy, Katie participated in the Open Academy projects, leading workshops at primary schools across London. Prior to the Academy, Katie has worked with Ms Dan Yu for over 10 years.

Katie has also taken part in the HKDSE music examination and achieved grades 5 and 8 in ABRSM music theory. She has written music theory educational materials and has a wealth of experience teaching in music centres.

Katie strongly believes in holistic development in music education– addressing not only students' musical growth but also their intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Katie is passionate about helping her students stay motivated and continually improve, encouraging them to set goals, challenge themselves, and take pride in their progress. She strives to create an environment that inspires confidence, perseverance, and a lasting love for music.

In addition to her teaching work, Katie is deeply passionate about educational outreach. In 2018, she founded the Aspire Charity Harp Foundation (Aspire) in Hong Kong. Aspire has organized numerous community workshops and collaborated with NGOs such as Playright, St. James Settlement, and HK Rehabilitation Power to bring the joy of music to underprivileged children.

With a strong commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians, Katie continues to inspire her students through her love of the harp and her dedication to music education.
