About Katie

As one of the prominent young harpists of her generation in Hong Kong, Katie Lo has been invited to give numerous harp recitals and performances in musical events across Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Australia, and the US. Having commenced her harp journey at the age of 9 and pursued studies under Dan Yu, Katie has become an active participant in international competitions and has received significant awards and recognition. Accolades include gold medal in the 3rd Hong Kong Harp Competition, first prize in the 7th French International Harp Competition, second prize at the 5th USA Young Artist’s Harp Competition.

As an orchestral musician, Katie has also performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds, Ponte London Orchestra, and the Royal Academy of Music Symphonic Brass.

Apart from recognition in the musical field, Katie is also awarded the Outstanding Students’ Award and chosen as one of the top 20 finalists in the Outstanding Teens Election in 2018. She is also awarded the 1st runner-up in the Student of the Year Award (Performing Artist) and chosen as a finalist in the community contributor category. In 2021, she became one of the HSBC Scholars as a recipient of the HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship and was awarded the Top Ten Outstanding Tertiary Students' Award.

Katie is keen to give back to the community in her journey of pursuing her own aspirations. In 2018, she founded Aspire Charity Harp Foundation (Aspire), with the hope to make harp music more accessible and support the community with a series of charitable events via partnership with NGOs and other organisations. She has organised the Aspire Harp Charity Recital 2017 and 2021, in which a total of HKD$300,000 was raised for UNICEF and UNESCO respectively to support the musical development of underprivileged children. Aspire has also partnered with NGOs (eg. Playright, St. James Settlement, HK Rehabilitation Power) and organised visits to elderly homes and children’s hospitals, fundraising concerts, harp promotion workshops in the community.

Katie gained an entrance scholarship for her studies as a Master’s Student in harp performance at the Royal Academy of Music, working with Professor Skaila Kanga. She was also awarded a full tuition scholarship under the HK Scholarship of Excellence Scheme to support her studies in London. Prior to her time in the Academy, Katie completed her bachelor studies at the University of Hong Kong, with a double major in International Business & Global Management and Music, where she was on the Dean’s List for 5 consecutive semesters.
